I was so inspired by Cherie's "big" plan to make nutrition more of a priority within the aged care sector and felt that I needed to contribute in some way once I had completed placement. It's overwhelming to think of the amount of support Cherie has gained and how many people would like to help improve nutrition status and quality of life among the ageing population. In the future, with the help of the Lantern Project I would love to see nutrition become more of a priority in Residential Aged Care Facilities and would love for residents to become more involved in the planning and preparation of meals as I feel this would have a great impact upon quality of life and the prevalence of Malnutrition within the elderly population.
I graduated from Griffith University and was fortunate enough to start my career as a Dietitian with Cherie Hugo at My Nutrition Clinic. As a new graduate I'm still finding my feet in the dietetics world and my interests are ever changing. I was first introduced to the Aged Care sector whilst completing my Public Health Placement with Cherie. It wasn't until this time that I really understood the full effects of malnutrition in the ageing population, and it is now something that I am a lot more conscious of in practice.
